10 Cars That Have The Most DUIs
Drivers of certain vehicle models are more likely to receive DUI citations compared to others. Driving under the influence is extremely dangerous and should be avoided to ensure everyone’s safety on the road. It can also be pretty expensive!
A study aimed to find out which vehicle models had the most drivers with a DUI citation. Researchers looked at data from 2.7 million car insurance applications. They calculated how many drivers had a DUI for every 1,000 vehicles.
Luxury And Standard Cars

The cars with the highest DUI rates include both luxury brands, like Audi and Cadillac, and standard brands, like Toyota and Nissan. This mix shows that DUI rates aren’t limited to just one type of car. Both expensive and more affordable cars have drivers with DUI records. It’s clear that the problem of driving under the influence affects a wide range of vehicles.
Safety Ratings

Out of the top 10 car models with the most DUIs, only four are still being made. This means that most of these high-DUI cars are no longer available. Among the top 10, the Audi A5 is the only model with a 5-star safety rating from the NHTSA.
Buick Lucerne

The Buick Lucerne has a DUI rate of 28.8 per 1,000 drivers, making it 10th on the list of car models with the most DUIs. For every 1,000 Buick Lucerne vehicles, more than 28 drivers have received a DUI, which is over twice the national average of 13.2 per 1,000. The base model had an MSRP of $35,675. Buick stopped making the Lucerne in 2011, and the 2011 model received a safety rating of 3 out of 5 stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Toyota Landcruiser

The Toyota Landcruiser also has a DUI rate of 28.8 per 1,000 drivers, tying with the Buick Lucerne. This rate is more than twice the national average. The 2021 Toyota Landcruiser, the last model before discontinuation, retailed for about $85,000, making it the most expensive model in Toyota’s lineup. Although it wasn’t crash-tested by the NHTSA, it included advanced safety features like a pre-collision warning system and lane departure alerts.
Audi A5

The Audi A5 has a high DUI rate of 29 per 1,000 drivers, making it the eighth-highest among luxury models. The 2022 Audi A5 Sportback boasts a perfect five-star safety rating from the NHTSA, although other models like the cabriolet and coupe are not rated. Cadillac discontinued the Seville in 2004, and the final model year retailed for nearly $46,000. Despite its high DUI rate, the Seville was highly customizable, offering various trim packages and exterior colors.
GMC Suburban

The GMC Suburban has a DUI rate of 33.9 per 1,000 drivers, making it one of the few models in the top 10 still in production. Priced at $56,900 for the base model, it has been marketed as a family vehicle and won the Best Large SUV for Families award for two consecutive years. The Suburban also has a high safety rating of 4 out of 5 stars from the NHTSA, despite its high DUI rate.
Nissan NV

The Nissan NV has a DUI rate of 34.4 per 1,000 vehicles, placing it fourth. This passenger van, discontinued in 2021, retailed for just over $32,000. It includes a Class IV tow hitch receiver for towing up to 8,700 lbs, but it was not rated by the NHTSA.

Acura NSX

The Acura NSX tops the list with a DUI rate of 46.6 per 1,000 drivers, which is the highest among all the cars in the database. Despite its high cost, it remains less common on the road, partly due to its price tag.
