Beer Named “Osama Bin Lager” Was So Popular The Brewery Had To Shut Down Their Website

A UK brewery sparked controversy after an Osama Bin Laden-themed beer went viral and sold out basically instantly. “We’ve woken up the last couple of mornings with thousands and thousands and thousands of notifications,” said the co-owner of the brewery. The demand was just too much to handle, and they had to shut down their whole website! Millions of people have now seen the image of the beer on social media, as its been making its rounds on the web for a bit now.
Other Brews

The brewery, located in Billinghay, Lincolnshire, also makes Kim Jong Ale and Putin Porter. Co-owner Luke Mitchell said it’s all just fun and games, “They’re all tongue-in-cheek names – a nicer outlook on some horrible dictators.”
Disconnected Phones

Photos of the controversial beer rapidly went viral online, leading to a quick sellout. Due to the overwhelming demand, the brewery staff even had to disconnect their phones and shut down the website.
Social Media

A photo of the beer, named after the former al-Qaeda leader who died in 2011, has been seen by millions on social media. The brewery and a pub are run by husband and wife, Luke and Catherine Mitchell.
Thousands Of Notifications

Luke Mitchell said, “We’ve woken up the last couple of mornings with thousands and thousands and thousands of notifications.” His wife said, “It’s been crazy. The phone just hasn’t stopped for the last 48 hours.”
Good Cause

Despite its controversial name, Osama Bin Lager’s proceeds support a good cause. For each barrel sold, the brewery donates $13 to a charity benefiting victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, according to the BBC.
All Laughs

“Everyone laughs when they see the names on the bar. As far as I’m aware, no one’s been offended, but I’m sure there is someone out there,” Mr Mitchell said.
Offensive

Mrs Mitchell said, “I think there’s always a risk of somebody being offended.” Fortunately for the brewery, apparently, nobody has yet, at least according to them.
Argentina

There’s another case of controversial food and drink names recently. A fast food restaurant in Argentina was labeled “offensive” and “disgusting” by Jewish groups for serving items inspired by the Holocaust.
Adolf Fries

The Argentine restaurant menu included “Adolf fries” — fried potatoes topped with bacon and cheddar. It also included an “Ana Frank burger,” which consisted of ground beef with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mayonnaise.
Critics

Critics argue that creating food or drink items with names inspired by such tragic historical events is highly insensitive and offensive. They say it trivializes the suffering and trauma experienced by countless people and disrespects their memory. They want businesses to be more respectful when naming their products to avoid causing unnecessary harm.
Proponents

Supporters of these controversial names say that they just find them funny. They believe that the names are meant to be lighthearted and not taken seriously. They say that the humor is intended to be provocative and attract attention, not intended to offend.
Thoughts?

What do you think? Are these names clever and funny, and should the items continue to be sold? Or are they offensive and inappropriate and should be removed?
