In the late 1800s and early 1900s, each national park and monument was run on its own, which caused different levels of success. The National Park Service (NPS) was created on August 25, 1916, when President Woodrow Wilson signed it into law.
The NPS was made to take care of and protect the increasing number of national parks and monuments so that future generations could enjoy them. Some states have more national parks than others, and some don’t have any at all. These are the 12 states with the most national parks.
California
